Engineered Wood

The concept for engineered wood flooring began as a solution to solve the compatibility issue of having solid oak floors with underfloor heating systems. Because engineered wood floor has a solid base, it’s much more versatile than solid wood but still has an authentic feel.

Wood Flooring Care & Finishes

Once your wood flooring is installed, you’ll want to take good care of it. There’s a few different wood care options you have to choose from.

Hardwax Oil

These protective oils are used to improve the appearance of your floor. Hardwax oil is suitable for all wood surfaces, including wooden bowls and furniture. Some hardwax oil is suitable for interior use, but you can also find exterior use oils too. This is a versatile finish that can also be used on similar surfaces such as cork and wood fiber. Application usually requires you to apply the product and let it settle before removing any excess with a cloth

This is more easily done with an electric floor buffer. The hardwax then needs between 24 and 72 hours to dry and will be completely cured in a longer time. The cure time can take anywhere from a week to a month, depending on the product used.

Lacquers

Unlike oil, lacquer doesn’t sink into wood. It sits on top, giving the floor shine and protection. Lacquer is much more durable than oils, so it’s a great choice for rooms with heavy footfall. It’s also great where spills might happen often, as liquid won’t be able to penetrate the protective coat of lacquer.

Natural Oil

Natural oil is a great option for those who want their floors to feel traditional. When applied to your floor, the oil will penetrate the wood and harden. This strengthens the floor and also adds a beautiful finish.
